WOMEN WHO INSPIRE ME

There are many people in this who do great social work and become famous and we too praise their efforts.But there are a few people who also do great social work but do not get recognized for it.One of them is Sudha Murthy.

SUDHA MURTHY, A RENOWNED INDIAN AUTHOR AND CHAIRPERSON OF INFOSYS FOUNDATION, A NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION.
Sudha Murthy was born on 19th August 1950 in Shiggaon, Haveri, Karnataka. Her father, DR.R.H. K Kulkarni was a doctor and her mother, Vimala Kulkarni was a school teacher. She did B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the B.V.B College of Engineering & Technology, Hubli. She stood first in Karnataka for which she received a gold medal from the Chief Minister ofKarnataka. She also completed Her MTech in Computer Science in 1974 from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Stood First in her class and received a gold medal from the Indian Institute of Engineers.

Sudha Murthy became the first female engineer hired at India’s largest Auto Manufacturer TataEngineering and Locomotive Company (Telco). Then she met Narayana Murthy and eventually, both of them got married on 10th February,1978.
In 1996, Sudha and her friends founded a Non-Profit Organization ‘Infosys Foundation’ with anaim to help the underprivileged section of the society. Her mission was to provide aid ineducation, rural development, healthcare, arts and culture, and destitute Care. Her foundation has helped more than 2300 houses in flood- affected areas and more than 70,000 libraries for schools in India. Her NPO helped in building more than 10,000 toilets in the rural areas of Bengaluru. This non- profit Organization. This non-profit organizations are funded by Infosys.

Sudha Murthy is also an author. She is one of the most renowned authors of India. She has written several books in English and Kannada Languages, which are generally based on her real-life experiences. Some of her books are How I taught my grandmother to read, The Accolades Galore, Dollar Bahu, and the Three Thousand Stitches.

Awards won by her-1) Best teacher award in 1995, 2) The R.K. Narayana’s award for literature in 2006, 3) Won the Padma Shri award in 2006. Sudha Murthy is a role model for our Society which is obsessed with money. She has taught us how humanity and values are priceless which no money could buy. She showcased a heart touching lesson on modesty by buying vegetables from the street vendors, Cleaning the kitchen and washing the utensils of Raghavendra swamy temple where she offers her services 3 days in a year.
